This past weekend, DTC opened the indoor season at the 2017 Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason University. All athletes competed in mid-distance events, ranging from the 600m to the 1000m. First event for the club was the men’s exhibition 600m. After making a move with 100m to go, Edose Ibadin took the win in 1:17.81, followed by Derek Holdsworth finishing with a personal best of 1:19.23 and Julian Parker crossing at 1:20.76. Last year, Ibadin and Holdsworth ran 1:20.26 and 1:20.49 for the same distance at the Terrapin Invitational. Less than an hour later, Ibadin took the track again to pace teammate Sam Penzenstadler in the 800m. Ibadin’s performance qualified him for the 2017 USATF Indoor Championships, held in Albuquerque, NM from March 3-5.

Next on the track was Sam Penzenstadler in the men’s 800m. Facing Nike Athlete & GMU assistant coach Cory Leslie, Penzenstadler took the W in a time of 1:50.40. Penzenstadler will be racing an 800m again next weekend along with three of his teammates (Holdsworth, Ibadin, Parker), as they will compete together in a 4x800m relay at The Armory Track Invitational in New York City.

After being with the club for a little over two weeks, Will Crocker took the men’s 1000m win in a time of 2:25.33. Paced by Derek Holdsworth through 600m, Crocker didn’t look back over the final two laps & won his first race with the club in his first attempt. Giovanni Mowatt took second in a personal best time of 2:27.36.

Finishing up the day was the women’s 1000m. Coming off running the mile the previous weekend at her alma-mater, University of Maryland, Myah Hicks took second in a time of 2:49.41. Teammate Merrecia James took third, crossing the line at 2:51.42.
