Staten Island, NY – Ibadin steals the win away from Jock at the line in the men’s 1000m
Men’s 1000m: 1) Edose Ibadin – 2:21.48, 4) Derek Holdsworth – 2:23.35
Women’s 1000m: 6) Myah Hicks – 2:45.71
Men’s Mile: 3) Sam Penzenstadler – 4:00.78
In the men’s 1000m, Edose Ibadin and Derek Holdsworth took on the likes of Charles Jock (2016 Olympian – 800m) and Brandon Lasater of the Atlanta Track Club in the late-night race. Will Crocker took on the pacing duties for the evening and took the leader Jock through 600m at the assigned goal pace of 1:23. Jock was the only athlete in the race to take the pace, creating a big gap between himself and the rest of the field; however, Ibadin came back in a “Kick of the Week” performance and took the win in 2:21.48, 0.03 seconds before Jock. Holdsworth crossed the line in fourth place in a time of 2:23.35.
In the women’s 1000m, Myah Hicks took sixth place in a personal best time of 2:45.71.
In the men’s mile, Sam Penzenstadler took the field among Olympians Andrew Wheating and Robby Andrews, and Paralympic star Michael Brannigan. The pacemaker took the field through 4 seconds slower than the assigned time of 1:58, leading to slower overall performances from the field that consisted of 8 sub 4 minute milers. Penzenstadler crossed the line third in a time of 4:00.70, just missing the sub-4 barrier. Robby Andrews took home the win in 3:59.36.
